Hon. Ayo Mayegun Reacts to Jerry Omodara’s Remarks on Yagba West Protest
The tragic loss of five gallant officer and sons of Yagba West has thrown our land into mourning. These men were husbands, fathers, uncles, and breadwinners. Their sudden death has left widows, children, and entire families in sorrow. At such a time, what the people deserve from their leaders is empathy, understanding, and reassurance.
It is therefore heartbreaking that the words of our State Security Adviser, Commander Jerry Omodara, did not reflect the gravity of this moment. To suggest that our peaceful protests were politically sponsored, and to liken our grief to irrelevant comparisons, is not only insensitive but also unfair to the pain of our people.
The protests in Yagba West were not politics. They were the genuine cry of a people who have endured repeated insecurity and now demand action to protect lives. No one instigates a community that has buried five breadwinners in one day — sorrow itself is enough to bring people to the streets.
We thank His Excellency, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, for sending a condolence delegation and for assuring our people that justice will be served. This is the spirit of leadership we expect — one that acknowledges pain and gives hope.
I call on all leaders to be more sensitive in moments like this. Words can heal or wound further. Yagba West has bled enough, and what we need now is unity, compassion, and concrete action to secure our future.
Let history record clearly: our people protested not out of politics, but out of pain. And I, Hon. Ayo Mayegun, will always stand with them in truth and in justice.
– Hon. Ayo Mayegun
