A Heartfelt Appeal to the Good People of Yagba Federal Constituency. By Hon. Ayo Mayegun
There comes a time in the life of a people when we must pause, reflect, and decide—not just on the basis of routine, but with foresight and boldness. That time is now.
As we approach the 2027 elections, there are rising conversations across our communities: “It’s time for someone else.” “No one has ever done three terms before.” These comments, while valid in expression, do not tell the full story.
Let’s be honest: There has never been any written law, formal agreement, or political charter in Yagba that says “after one or two terms, power must shift.” What we’ve seen over the years is a pattern—not a policy. A practice—not a principle.
In fact, at every point in time, candidates from Mopamuro have always contested alongside others. So let us not pretend there's an established system we are breaking. We are not breaking anything. We are boldly choosing progress, and that choice comes with responsibility.

Hon. Leke Abejide: Beyond Mopamuro, A Blessing to All of Yagba
Before he ever held office, Hon. Leke Abejide was already investing in the lives of ordinary people across Yagba East, Yagba West, and Mopamuro—without discrimination.
His now-famous WAEC and NECO payment scheme, which has saved thousands of Yagba parents and students from financial pressure, serves the entire federal constituency, not one part of it. That is not politics. That is people-first leadership.
Under a relatively small political party, ADC, he defeated giants from APC and PDP—not once, but twice. And he did not do it for personal gain. He did it for us. And if that much could be achieved with limited national influence, imagine what more we can get when he goes further.

This Is Not Just About Third Term—It’s About Our Place in Abuja
The National Assembly is not just a gathering of lawmakers—it’s a battlefield of influence. And the highest-ranking positions—like House Leader or Deputy Leader—are reserved for those who have served long enough to command national recognition and trust.
We have a rare opportunity to plant a Yagba son at the top table—but that door only opens through experience, continuity, and seniority.
If we’re truly serious about development, we must think strategically, not sentimentally.

No One Complained When Governor Ododo Came from the Same Zone
Let’s look around us. Nobody is dragging Governor Usman Ododo for coming from the same zone as his predecessor. Why? Because what matters now is performance. We support him not because of where he’s from, but because we’ve seen the direction and delivery.
In the same way, we must support Leke—not based on geography, but based on what he has done, what he’s doing, and what he is capable of delivering next. We need someone who already knows the way—and is ready to take us further.
---
Let’s Be Honest With Ourselves
Are we trying to “change” just because change feels right? Or are we thinking about what’s best for Yagba?
Are we just repeating: “Nobody has done three terms before”—or are we bold enough to ask: “Why haven’t we?”
Let us break the pattern and rewrite the narrative.
Let us stop the cycle of starting over every eight years. Let’s consolidate progress. Let’s allow someone who already has national standing to represent us at an even higher level.
---
Let’s Think Beyond 2027: Let’s Think Legacy
This is not about “Mopamuro,” or “Yagba West,” or “Yagba East.” This is about all of us. The schools, roads, scholarships, and bills sponsored—they don’t carry tribal marks. They serve Yagba people, period.
Let us not sacrifice a rare opportunity because of a pattern that was never a rule.
Let us give Hon. Leke Abejide the opportunity to finish strong—and climb higher. Let us be proud that for the first time in history, Yagba can produce a House Leader or Deputy House Leader.
Let us not throw that away.
---
In Conclusion: Let History Record Us Right
Let it be remembered that in 2027, Yagba stood together—not behind tribe, not behind sentiment—but behind vision and progress.
Let our children look back and say: “They made the right call when it mattered.”
Let us choose Yagba First.
Let us build, not rotate.
Let us advance, not reset.
Let us think legacy, not just election.
Signed,
Hon. Ayo Mayegun
